Willemen Infra's ongoing sustainability efforts have been rewarded with CSC certificates for our concrete plants and recycling sites. The Concrete Sustainability Council (CSC) certificate is an internationally recognized certification promoting sustainability in the concrete industry. We achieved CSC Gold for our four concrete plants and CSC Platinum for our three recycling sites, marking the highest recognition and a first for Belgium.
The CSC system evaluates the sustainability performance of concrete manufacturers based on various criteria, including environmental performance, social engagement, economic responsibility, and the use of sustainable raw materials. When a company is awarded a CSC certificate, it signifies the organization's commitment to sustainable practices in concrete production. The certification can have different levels, including bronze, silver, gold, and platinum, with higher levels indicating a greater commitment to sustainability. Attaining a CSC certificate is a significant step for companies to reduce their ecological footprint and contribute to a more sustainable construction sector.
"We are delighted and proud that Willemen Infra has achieved significant milestones today. Our commitment to ecological responsibility, following a thorough external audit by SGS Intron, has resulted in obtaining the gold CSC label for all our concrete plants and the remarkable platinum label for our recycling centres. This means that we not only meet but even exceed the highest standards for sustainability in Belgium," says Joris De Kesel, General Manager of Willemen Infra.
Gold for concrete plants: a recognition of dedication
"The gold CSC label for our concrete plants reflects the dedication we demonstrate in every aspect of our concrete production. Our efforts throughout the entire production process – from selecting sustainable raw materials to optimizing production processes for energy efficiency – have led to this beautiful recognition. Our concrete plants are now recognized as leaders in sustainability in the construction sector," says Dirk Christianen, Director of production and recycling.
Platinum for recycling centres: a pioneering achievement in Belgium
"We not only meet the highest standards, but we even exceed them," continues Dirk. "For our recycling sites, we were awarded the platinum CSC label. We are the first in Belgium to achieve this highest recognition for sustainability in the recycling sector. This not only attests to our commitment to sustainable recycling practices but also makes us pioneers in this field."
Building a sustainable future together
"In late December 2023, Willemen Infra also received the CO2 Performance Ladder level 5 certificate. This means that we are not only working on our own direct CO2 emissions but also on all our indirect scope 3 emissions," says Franky Van den Berghe, Sustainability Manager at Willemen Groep. "To achieve level 5, a company works not only on its own emissions but also on those of the entire sector chain. The certificate aligns completely with the CO2 reduction plan of Willemen Groep."
"These certifications are not the endpoint but rather an encouragement to continue our efforts in sustainability. They emphasize that we are not just building infrastructures but also a more sustainable future. Our commitment to innovation, environmental awareness, and social responsibility has brought us to where we are today. Our ultimate goal is to contribute to building a better world in a climate-neutral manner," concludes Franky.
Willemen Infra is a leading, Belgian road construction company with a regional presence in both Flanders and Wallonia. An important asset is that we have all aspects of the construction process under our own management and thus fully control the execution. Moreover, our team of 1,000 well-trained and experienced employees are willing to work at night and over the weekend to make sure they get everything done in time. In addition, thanks to our own COPRO-certified production and recycling sites, we are one of the leading producers for asphalt and road concrete.
