For the municipality of Asse, Franki Construct built a new fire station with a total floor surface area of 5,000 m². Haviland was the inter-municipal commissioning authority. The project included the redevelopment of the badly contaminated industrial site that was initially decontaminated.
The building was given an industrial look by using concrete panels for the wall cladding. The panels were alternated with zinc and fully enclosed in a steel structure made from pressed gratings. The interior of the building has the same atmosphere thanks to the exposed concrete and brickwork in concrete blocks. Large roof gardens have been created between the various units and this is where the fire fighters can relax. The focus was also on energy consumption and sustainability with the installation of a Borehole Thermal Energy Storage (BTES) system for geothermal heat recovery and heat pumps, solar collectors for the sanitary hot water and the advantages of optimal solar gain.
In March 2004 the Flemish Prime Minister Kris Peeters paid a visit to the new fire station within the scope of the fire service reforms. The origins and development of domestic fires was explained to him and he was given a demonstration of fire extinguishing. |
