GO! School van de Toekomst - Etterbeek

Description

Etterbeek Athenaeum has been bursting at the seams for some time now. The new campus houses new classrooms for primary education (third grade) and secondary education (first grade), good for a total of 600 pupils. Also found in the new building are lab rooms for science subjects, studios for art education, an atrium including a teaching kitchen, meeting room and teacher's room.

To build the new campus, the existing changing rooms and shower rooms of the sports hall were relocated to the north side of the campus. At the same time, the sports hall will be renovated and the facade will be provided with better insulation. The existing school building will be completely gutted and the exterior joinery removed. By creating new, large passages, the building will be converted into a covered play area, while respecting the historical elements.

The surrounding area will also be taken in hand to connect the new building to the rest of the infrastructure and to increase accessibility. For example, play elements and benches will be added and a small amphitheatre, several willow tunnels and a wooden stage will be provided. Some trees on the site will be preserved, while others will be given a new location on the campus. A single central car park will be constructed to replace the various parking spaces on the site. Furthermore, two bicycle parking areas will be constructed.

Willemen Construct is responsible for the structural works wind and watertight, the finishing, fixed furniture, techniques and exterior construction. Design & Build.

Willemen Construct came into being on 1 July 2018 as a result of the merger between Willemen General Contractor and the construction department of Kumpen.
