P+R - Merksem

Description

This ultramodern 'park and ride' car park (12,000 m²) in Merksem has room for 690 cars and 150 bicycles and 18 charging points for electric vehicles. The building is characterised by its light and open construction, in which wooden beams play the main role.

In contrast to a traditional tender, this project was entrusted to Franki Construct already during the execution study. This enabled us to coordinate the implementation and production processes with the client, the design office and the architect in order to achieve the desired end result as efficiently as possible. We also built a temporary car park to accommodate the existing traffic during the works.

The aim was to create a 'park and ride' car park that would fit in perfectly with the Oosterweel project as a whole. In other words, the car park should enable intelligent mobility and improve the quality of life in and around Antwerp. This vision is also reflected in the design choices, the installation of a buffer basin for rainwater and the possibilities for expansion for more charging points for electric cars.
