DronePort - Sint-Truiden

Description

DronePort on the former military base in the borough of Brustem is the new home base for start-ups, growth companies, schools and knowledge centres in the manned and unmanned aviation sector. On the site, which has a 2.4 km long runway with control tower, pilot training, initiation and commercial flights take place. For drones, there is 'the cage', an indoor test space of 30 by 9 metres and three outdoor test zones where, exceptionally, it is possible to fly up to a height of a few hundred metres. In addition, DronePort has meeting rooms and office spaces with permanent offices and flex desks for a total of over 300 employees. During the construction phase, DronePort was guarded by drones that independently and on their own initiative carried out patrol rounds. They also took measurements and delivered progress reports to the site management.

Willemen Construct came into being on 1 July 2018 as a result of the merger between Willemen General Contractor and the construction department of Kumpen.
